John & Jacky Taylor
March 2010
Dear praying
friends,
Can you hear the
sound of blocks
being sawed, and
smell the dust in
the air? That sound
may not be very
welcome for the
residents of 36
Vysotskogo street in
Odessa, Ukraine, but
for the CMI it is
the sound of
answered prayer.
Almost five years
have passed since
the fire at the
Church Ministries
Institute (CMI)
building, causing
extensive damage to
the ten-year-old
building. We are so
grateful for the
support we have
received following
the fire, from both
sides of the ocean.
In the years
following the fire,
you prayed with us
for wisdom as to
what kind of
facility is needed
to replace the CMI
building, and to
supply the funds
necessary to rebuild
and to replace the
equipment and
supplies which were
lost. The old
building was no
longer suitable for
use, was becoming
increasingly
expensive to
operate, and legal
complications made
it impossible for us
to stay there long
term. A new
International
Training & Resource
Center was needed to
house offices for
all of the CMI
administration and
the new distance
education division,
as well as a large
library and resource
center to serve all
the regional schools
across Eurasia.
We praise God for
answering those
prayers! We now
have possession of a
beautiful facility
in Odessa, just 2
kilometers from the
old property, which
will become the new
International
Training Center
(ITC). It is
completely paid for,
and owned by the
CMI. From March to
June, dozens of
North American
volunteers will be
coming to help
renovate the
interior of the
facility. Lord
willing, we will be
ready to move the
ITC by the end of
the summer.
We understand that
for many, the old
institute building
will always be
remembered fondly as
a place where they
learned, grew
spiritually, and
made lifelong
friends. One former
student told me that
he will always
remember his days in
that building as the
best days of his
life. We praise God
for those years He
gave us, and look
forward to many more
ahead in the new
facility. This new
facility, although
smaller, will be
more economical,
more functional,
fully registered in
the name of the CMI,
and better suited to
meet the growing
technological needs
of the 21st
century.
Please pray for the
more than 35
volunteers who will
be raising support
and traveling to
Ukraine to assist us
with this project.
Pray for John as he
leads the building
project, in
conjunction with Tim
Rose and the ABWE
project office.
Pray also that we
would be able to
stay within budget,
and have enough left
over for badly
needed computer
equipment.
Praise God for:
-
filling up
all five of the work
teams needed to
renovate the new CMI
facility
-
relief from
suffering for
Jacky’s father, who
is now enjoying
fellowship with His
Saviour in heaven,
and for a
God-honouring
funeral – although
Jacky did not make
it back in time to
see her father
before he passed
away, she was able
to spend a few weeks
ministering to her
family in Canada
-
balanced
bookkeeping for the
CMI, after John
spent weeks updating
and auditing the
books, with the help
of our regional
accountant and his
wife (Pat & Tina
Curby), who stayed
with John and the
kids for a few days
in February while
Jacky was away
-
thoughtful
Odessa teammates who
provided meals for
John and the kids
while Jacky was away
Please pray for:
-
safety for
all of our building
teams, that the work
would be completed
by the middle of
June, and for God to
work in the lives of
each volunteer
coming
-
continued
freedom of religion
in Ukraine, despite
the results of the
recent presidential
election
-
additional
funds still needed
to cover the current
CMI financial
deficit – we are
asking God to allow
us to move into our
new facility
debt-free by the end
of the summer
-
John as he
teaches “Historical
Background of the
Bible”, a second
level course, in our
CMI Bible school in
Kharkov, Ukraine
over three weekends
-
John as he
gets back into his
PhD studies
part-time after a
five-month break,
and as he travels to
Chicago at the end
of May for his
second last module
-
Jessica as
she makes her final
decision as to where
she will attend
college in the Fall
– her ultimate goal
is to receive a
teacher’s degree and
become an MK
(missionary kid)
teacher with ABWE
-
continued
healing for Jacky’s
bone
